Educational Insights Grandma's Trunk & Play Foam Review & Giveaway

Nothing makes my son smile more than playing games. He also does not like to lose but, has accepted it with games. The things I like about the Educational Insights Grandma's Trunk Alphabet Game is you don't have to lose. It's not a traditional game and you can get as creative as possible and many people or few people can play. Beautiful colored cards, fun learning and riddles is packed in to Grandma's Trunk.


 All though I did not have enough children around to test all the games on the instructions, we played several different versions. I first read the clue cards and my son guess the item I was talking about. Later he did the same, except he can't read so he made up his own clues. This help advance his critical thinking, descriptive details that they will be looking for on his Kindergarten test. While he already knows his ABC's, practicing them can not hurt so I had him to put the cards in order from A to Z, then had him tell me another item each letter begins with, instead of the picture on the card.

One of the next games we played was I had him only pack food cards for grandma, them clothing, then house items, etc. That helped him recognize items for specific uses. When we did the story of what grandma packed with the cards "shuffled & mixed", he had to tell the story from the cards drawn. No matter how mixed up, he had to think of how to incorporate that item in to his story. Yes the story did get a little crazy but, his creativity came alive and he told a story. This was his favorite game so far.


Not only did we get to play around with the grandma trunk game. We got to get creative with some play foam. It is not as messy as it sounds and it's not that sticky. It's kind of like making rice crispy treats without the "sticky sticky." Very easy to clean up. Some had glitter in it. My son mixed it and said he was making a pizza.

Potty Hair Is Stylish

So yesterday started out here at 4:30 am, I wake my husband up for work. Checking the kids, I rub my hand across my 2yr old's head, he was burning up with fever 102.3 degrees. After a bath & promising a car ride he took meds, so my husband rides him around the block. Fever goes down and we take brother to school, I decide to take him back to the doctor.

Jumping in the shower, he wants another one too. I'm taking him to the bedroom to get his clothes on. I look back, where did he go? He's back in the bathroom brushing his hair, this would not have been so bad but, water is running down. I grabbed the brush and asked, did you put the brush in the potty? So there you have it Potty Hair Is Stylish, and my son did do it.

Shower #3, then doctor. He has a virus on top of getting over the cold and ear infection. Did I mention he was super hyper? Next running back home I was in a hurry and tripped on the plasma car and skated, balancing my fall as I was going down, it wasn't so bad. Next tornado alerts are going out, the weather passes and I'm just ready to go to bed and end this day. This was just the big stuff not to mention all the little things that went wrong. Today I can laugh about it all.

Sick Children & Panic Meningitis

I carried both sick boys to the doctor. Here was the symptoms.

Youngest child, fever, cough, running nose, holding ear. He was diagnosed with a cold and ear infection, given antibiotics & cough meds.

Oldest child was up during the night sounded like he had the whooping cough it was so loud, stuffy nose, and said his ear hurt too. He was diagnosed with upper respiratory infection and given cough meds.

So I think we are on the fast track to healing then my oldest son tells my mom his neck is hurting. This would not have been so bad except someone from our community died the day before from meningitis. He was not in town at the time but, it puts the fear into you. I went on mom panic alert. Took everything for me not grabbing him up and running to the ER. My mom calmed me down and said he'd been doing somersaults and he slept sitting up the night before with the cold, just watch. It was at bed time and he went to sleep. I was up most of the night checking on him and the night before.

He wakes the next morning and his stomach is hurting, he then vomits. After that he seems ok and he can move his neck all around. He just didn't have no appetite yesterday. It must be the cold & virus. So it's bedtime again and he is running a fever 100.6. I gave him meds and the fever stayed down all night. I'm waiting to see how today is going to go. I never knew how much my mom worried until I had my own children. 

Update: He is doing great today, guessing the fever came from the virus. No neck problems either. Cough clearing up. Youngest is hyper and doing great today.

Has Your School Banned Homemade Goodies?

The question is has your school banned homemade food snacks? Our school has a no homemade food policy. I actually like it and some hate it. They can arrange a in class food project.

Things to consider:

• Let's face it not everyone kitchen is up to health standards: Cross contamination, e. coli, salmonella, lord forbid someones kitchen looks like those on hoarders.
• Is the preparer of the food: licking the spoon, have a cold, washed their hands, just wiped a booger or their child's butt.
• How fresh is those products: Just something in the freezer or cabinet for the last five to 10 years.
• Food Allergies: Food allergies are everywhere now and packaged snack contain ingredient list. I even learn another mom daughter is allergic to red food dye.

Yes it is costly to buy for the whole class. That cost is way better than a child sick from food born illness or even dying. I feel much better for my son's safety.

Valentines for School & Sweetheart Display

 I'd decided we would not do the usual class valentine cards, that everyone else would be doing. My son really likes what we decided on. I saw slap bracelets at Oriental Trading and the little gift boxes in red and ordered them. While at the Dollar Store I picked up rose pens and heart shape glitter foam pieces.

I have to admit I was wondering how I was going to display the Valentines neat and tidy when I took them to school. Then I saw a cute idea at Sparkly Blonde YouTube page that would make the gifts look great on display and I can use it for cupcakes later too.

So the next day I picked up plastic heart plates at WalMart for 98 cents and I already own plenty candle holders. I actually used 3 of the same size plates. The gift boxes, we hot glued the heart shape glitter foam pieces to them, and he wrote from him. I wrapped in gift basket wrap and stuck the rose pens to the side. Then the project came together and topped with a rose. The rose pens are for grown ups on his school list.

Ingredients:
2 oz coconut rum
2 oz Irish cream
1 oz hazelnut liqueur
3 1/2 oz melted chocolate
3 1/2 oz cream
1 dash chocolate syrup
Preparation: Place the chocolate syrup around the glass then place the other ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake. Strain into glass.


Spring Fever

Ingredients:
3/4 oz lemon juice
3/4 oz mango syrup
1 1/2 oz pineapple juice
2 oz blood orange juice
Preparation: Shake well over ice cubes in a shaker, and strain into a collins glass half-filled with crushed ice.


Winter Breeze

Ingredients:
1 oz creme de cacao
1 oz vanilla schnapps
1 oz Irish cream
milk
Preparation: Pour liquors into a beer mug, and fill with milk. Stir, and serve.
